AMD is showing renewed strength after spending several months moving sideways. Semiconductor stocks have started gaining momentum again, and AMD is one of the names showing some interesting activity.
The key question now is whether this momentum can continue and push AMD toward new highs.
AMD Breaks Out With Strong Volume
AMD spent much of the period from June through recent weeks trading sideways. Recently, however, the stock started moving higher and began approaching its previous all-time-high area.
One important signal is the volume.
AMD moved higher with volume above its 50-day average, showing stronger participation behind the move. After the initial breakout, the stock consolidated on relatively lower volume before starting to move higher again.
That combination is worth watching:
Strong move + high volume + low-volume consolidation + renewed upside momentum.
If the momentum continues, AMD could be entering another important leg higher.
The Weekly Chart Tells an Interesting Story
Looking at the weekly chart can sometimes provide a clearer picture than focusing only on daily candles.
AMD has shown some very interesting reversal patterns over the past couple of years.
During 2024, AMD experienced a significant downtrend. Then, around April 2025, the stock showed a major reversal.
The important part was not simply one green candle.
The stock had been moving lower, and after a strong reversal candle, we did not see the expected continuation of the downtrend. Instead, the following week also moved higher.
That was an important clue.
The market was essentially saying:
“The sellers had their chance, but the price isn’t continuing lower.”
From there, AMD eventually went on a much larger move.
Another Major Reversal in 2026
We saw something similar again around March and April 2026.
AMD had been moving down, followed by repeated pullbacks and another move lower. Eventually, the stock produced a reversal instead of continuing the downtrend.
The following price action confirmed the reversal.
AMD then went on a powerful move from roughly the $220 area toward the $540 area.
This is why studying weekly candles can be useful.
Sometimes the most important signal is not the size of the candle. It is what happens after the candle.
A Similar Setup Is Developing Again
AMD has once again gone through a period of:
Downtrend → pullback → another decline → reversal attempt
Around the end of August, the stock made another lower-low move. But instead of getting strong downside follow-through, AMD produced a reversal candle during the week of September 8.
That is something worth watching.
It doesn’t guarantee another major rally, but it suggests that the selling pressure may be weakening.
The daily chart can then help identify potential entry points, while the weekly chart helps provide the bigger picture.
Fibonacci Levels to Watch
Using recent highs and lows, Fibonacci projections give us some interesting potential levels.
The first major area is around:
$680
A higher potential target comes around:
$840
If the current momentum continues, the first target would represent roughly another 10% or more from recent levels, while continued strength could potentially take AMD toward the $800+ area.
These are chart-based projections, not guarantees.
Semiconductor Momentum Is Worth Watching
AMD isn’t moving in isolation.
Other semiconductor names, including Micron and SanDisk, have also been showing increased activity recently.
When several stocks within the same sector begin showing strength at the same time, it can create a favorable environment for continued momentum.
At the same time, semiconductor stocks can move quickly in both directions, so risk management remains important.
What I’m Watching on AMD
For the coming days and weeks, the main things to watch are:
- Continued upside momentum
- Volume during major breakouts
- Whether AMD can hold above recent breakout levels
- A possible move toward $680
- Continued strength that could eventually bring $800+ levels into focus
- Any sharp reversal accompanied by heavy selling volume
The most interesting part of the current setup is the combination of weekly reversal signals and renewed daily momentum.
AMD has shown in the past that when a major downtrend fails to continue and buyers step back in, the resulting move can become much larger than expected.
For now, the key is to watch the price action and volume rather than trying to predict every move.
Final Thoughts
AMD has spent months building a base, and recent price action suggests that the stock may be entering another important phase.
The weekly chart is showing a potential reversal, while the daily chart is showing renewed momentum and stronger volume.
If that momentum continues, $680 becomes an important level to watch, followed by the possibility of levels above $800.
The semiconductor sector is also showing strength, which makes AMD an interesting stock to keep on the radar.
Watch the volume. Watch the breakout. Most importantly, manage the risk.
